Q: Where can I buy terramycin eye ointment for my cat in Canada?
Can I get it at Shoppers Drug Mart, Walmart or where else?
Any suggestions? I live near Hamilton.
A: well..i live in maine and my local pet store sells it… you should be able to get it at the vet too…
Q: Why does my cat lick everything in sight?
My black 2 year old cat Owen acts really strange at times. I know all cats have their own personality but sometimes I wonder about him. He tends to lick the weirdest things! Clean fresh laundry clothes right out of the dryer, the top of the stove ( I had to buy covers for them) some of my vases, and recently I caught him licking the sidewalk!? I adopted him when he was really small I believe he was too young to be away from his mother but someone told me the owner was going to put all the cats out ( in the winter) just because she was fed up with them. She was also on drugs and Im thinking maybe the 2nd hand smoke did some damange? Does anyone’s cat lick odd things? Other than that he is a great cat and I love him to death.
A: My cat licks EVERYTHING! At first it was just me…he has to lick me all the time….if he is in my lap and I put my hand down, he licks it….when I am sleeping, he tries to lick my face, hands, etc. I thought he was just “grooming” me like he does himself. Now he licks the coffee table, glasses, furniture, lamps…and the list goes on (not the sidewalk yet!). He even tries to go for the toothbrushes. I think he is just maybe tasting things? Skin is salty so maybe cats like it. Cats only have so much excitement in their lives, so maybe they lick to kill the time. Either way, I doubt anything is wrong with him. Just let him be
Q: What grocery store-variety cat food do you buy?
I’m currently feeding my kitten Purina Kitten Chow. She loves it but she’s closing in on 10 months so I want to start transitioning her into regular cat food. The thing is, it took me half an hour to decide which kitten food to give her initially (the store I was at had maybe four different kinds) and now the task of choosing the right cat food for her seems daunting.
I know that whatever it is should have a meat listed as the first ingredient, but other than that I can’t tell the difference. What do your cats like/not like? What is the healthiest? It’s got to be something I can grab at the grocery store/drug store. I don’t have the time/money to buy her food from the vet.
Also, has anyone had any experiences with off-brand cat food? Normally I would shy away, but I checked out the store brand at my local grocery store (Metro–the Irresistibles label) and the ingredients/nutritional value looked exactly the same as the pricey Iams Healthy Naturals.
Thanks!
A: the difference between kitten chow and regular cat show is very little. I am sure she will love the cat chow.
fyi: my cats have always been purina cat chow kitties! Currently, “Shadow” is a happy and healthy 14+ year old
Q: Is it possible for my cat….?
Is it possible for my cat to steal my money open the door and go buy drugs…because he is INSANE!! He just looped my purse on his neck and started to walk away like haha momma i am stealing your money!! Then he dropped it and climbed inside…..I am just kidding about the drugs..but sometimes i wonder….does anyone else have a cat that does INSANELY abnormal things? I mean my little turd….or the devil as i sometimes call him….does crazy things a lot….like…..standing in the bathroom and boxing the cabinet doors(drives me nuts). Or when i put on my pants he climbs in them and lays in them and wont let me pull them up…i wonder about his sanity sometimes…..
Oh he has a sense of humor all right…and he has an evil side…he is a biter. All the time with the jokes on mommy and the biting…..he scares me on purpose….and he knows what scares me more than other stuff….he is like a comedian….and a punk…but i get his furry booty back…i pick him up and hold in really close to me and kiss all over him..it makes him mad…and then he attaks me and then 20 min later he is loving on me again….he has Multiple personality disorder or he is bipolar…i haven’t figured it out yet ..he is only 10 months old…soo hopefully i will find out soon:) LOL
well if he is…”just a kitten” then he is a BIG BIG KITTEN!! LOL
A: Oh yeah!! My cat Piisty licks the bathroom tap for water instead of the fresh water in the bowl! She paws / boxes the mirrors in my mum’s room, she squashes in my drawer and the dirty laundry basket to sleep instead of the brand new catnipped bed we bought! She also paws the piano and she used to suckle on the white furry cushions while we had guests especially… yuck! She runs out of the cat flap, realises it’s pouring with rain and instead of coming back in she rund=s like crazy int oa bird’s nest in a tree. Strange, I know. She’s the one in the bed on the bottom of my Pets page: http://redcurrant.piczo.com/pets?cr=7&linkvar=000044.
My other cat (the one next to her) Mompie is very shweet. He digs under the sheets in my bed and gets trapped with his nose and paws poking out before I have to come and rescue him!
The strangest thing is that he is a meercat. He gets on his hind legs and practically walks.
Ok, these might not be funny, but they’re strange. My cats have no common sense. ^^
Q: Does anyone have any good tips for traveling with a cat?
I’m moving and taking my big black cat with me on the eight or nine hour drive to my new place. I once took him on a trip of that length sitting on my lap with no problems, but he’s reacted much less well to trips since, perhaps because he’s been in a cat carrier. He yowls constantly whenever he’s in the car. I’ve bought a bigger, more comfortable carrier that he can move around in–actually a portable dog kennel–and have been getting him used to it. I’d take him on some shorter drives but I don’t own a car. I’d really prefer not to give him drugs at all. Is there anything else I can do to make sure he’s comfortable and calm?
A: Catnip. It is not a drug. Cats love it and it drives them crazy for about 15 minutes, then it calms them down. You do not say how you will handle litter issues on the trip. I have a carrier big enough for a small litter box and food and water. If it will be really hot, he will at least need water on the trip. Put a layer of catnip in the bottom of the cage/carrier then put a blanket over top of it. Make sure you use high quality fresh catnip. It really works with mine. I live 13 miles from the nearest vet and mine hate the car. It makes a little bit of a mess, but the calming effect is well worth the mess.
Q: talking to a friend about stop using drugs [IN NEED OF ANSWER ASAP...please]?
uhm.. so me and a group of my friends are so worried right now about my friend (lets just say her name is jane). so this jane friend of mine is starting to have some bad habbits (drugs). she tried it once and now starts to crave for more. so we’re getting a little worried. and she also thinks that people who wouldnt do it are so called “pussies” or like scardy cats. we thought she knew better than this. and also sometimes she doesnt have enough money to buy lunch so she borrows money from us. and now i found out that she is saving her money to buy drugs. and now me and group of my friends are planning to talk to her about it but we are VERY afraid of the fact that she’d get worse if we talk to her as a grouo cuz she might think were ganging up on her. and now we really dont know what to do.. I NEED ANSWERS ASAP before its too late
A: let her consult a professional as soon as possible
Q: How to help a horny cat?
I dont mean to be gross but my cat ‘humps’ my blanet, body pillow at the end of the bed, and straddles my legs a few times a week while holding the blanket in his teeth.I have asked the vet about it because he was fixed at 6 months old.The vet laughed at me and said he never saw that before.I wanted to die of embarrasment. He suggested kitty Ritalin and seeing the behavior specialist at 30 bucks an hour.I wont drug him for being healthy for lack of a better word and cant afford the kitty shrink.I bought a squirt bottle and pick it up and squirt him.He usually runs when I pick it up.It stops it for that time but does it again the next night.
I have a fixed female cat too now.He plays with her and loves her but has never tried to initiate sex with her or the other female that lived here once. The only sexual behavior he has is in my bed when I try to sleep. How can I get him to ‘look’ at her? She might not want it but you never know.Help?
A: First off, I’d find a new vet. A neutered male who humps objects is just doing it as a sign of dominance and the vet should have told you that. It’s a behavior issue and nothing more. Keep trying the squirt bottle and giving a firm “NO”–hopefully he’ll get it.
I just want to say kudos to you for doing the right thing and getting your animals altered. There are too many people on here who don’t care to do that. Good for you. =)
Q: Drug Store available pain killers for Cat?
We have an 18 year old cat, who is coming to the end of her life. She has lost her teeth, and has some pain. My wife and I are on pension, we are looking for a pain killer for her, that we can buy in the drug store. We would like the cat to enjoy one more summer. We would appreciate any useful suggestions, and appreciate any help from someone who has had a similar experience with their pet.
Thank You
Addieum:
I have read some of your comments. It is not that I want to hold onto her (lucky) forever. It is just that I want her Lucky to have the pleasure of one last summer. My wife and I have discussed putting her to sleep. I have a medical condition that causes me severe pain (24/7) around the clock, so I understand pain, if I see it is too painful for her, then I will have her put to sleep. I have nursed Lucky through a lot of her adventures over her life time, and she has always come back to us. It would be a lot easier for me to have her put down, but does she not deserve one last summer? I intend to take her out ever beautiful day, so she can seat in the park and watch the birds and insects fly about. I am feeding her now a liquid diet, lactose free milk, and fish that I puree in a blender. The Vet maybe our final solution, and it maybe sooner then we like, I may not be able to keep my promise to let Lucky have one last summer of life on this Earth.
A: Hey there.
I’m sorry, but I have to tell you that you cannot buy any pain relieving or even pain controlling medications at a drugstore price.
I know you love your cat so much, but making her spend one more summer with you may just be torture to her.
Since she no longer has teeth, then eating must be very difficult for her. And if eating is difficult, then digestion and stomach issues are present as well.
If she’s in any pain, you really need to take her to the vet. I understand that you and your wife are on pension. The veterinarian will always have ways for you to make the cost work. They have payment plans, and they will work out the lowest price possible for you to pay.
The vet might recommend humanely putting her to sleep.
I know that this is the last thing you ever would want to consider, but it’s the sad truth.
But I’ve got to tell you, 18 years is a fantastic, long life for a cat! You must have kept her very healthy and happy all these years. =)
But in all honesty, the veterinarian is the only person or place where you can treat your cat’s pain.
Any medication found in a drug store will be toxic, or even poisonous to a cat, and she may end up in the vet’s office anyway.
Please take your little cat to the vet. This will benefit her greatly. I know you love her to bits, but the vet can help you work out a cost, and they will definitely end your cat’s suffering, whether it’s with a pain medication, and supplemented diet, or with humane euthanasia.
I’m very sorry, but I really hope you do what’s best for your cat, and take her to the vet and get her checked up.
I wish you the best of luck!
Q: Why is my dog licking herself like a cat lately?
I have a 3 year old female Doberman Pinscher. And about a month ago I gave her a bath and then the cats drug in fleas! So she was scratching herself real bad so we bought Front Line and put it on them last week but she is licking herself constantly non-stop like a cat. She is also biting herself and scratching like crazy and she now has bald spots all over her. My dad said it would be okay to wash her with Suave shampoo the last time I gave her a bath so could this be that her skin is really dry and flaky? And if so what can I do to help my poor baby????? Thank You!
A: Well I think that all the products you used on her are irritating her poor skin. I think you should bath her in DOG SHAMPOO and then lay off any other products for a while. It she continues to scratch you should take her to a vet. I know vets are sometimes expensive but this could cause serious damage to her skin!
Q: Cat tuna question, is it okay?
When I was at London Drugs today, I saw something called cat tuna, so i bought one can for like 60 cents! But I didn’t think tuna was good for cats because of the mercury? Does anyone know much about this? Or is it okay to feed my cat?
A: Tuna is FINE… and don’t forget to save the JUICE/water… they love that too. I call it “Kitty Champagne!”
As long as it is not the main portion of their diets, it’s fine! Also, consider getting “human” tuna… the cans for human consumption and not the cat food cans of tuna. Why? Because the cat food tuna contains “ash” and fillers, the human-consumption tuna does not.
Me… kittyslave23… I know my place.
Q: Mum and Dad want to get a new cat. Am I being selfish?
I have five cats, and our oldest one has become really ill and are on prescribed drugs to get better. The other day he was litterly half dead, coz he wasn’t moving, and was being sick in he’s sleep. Anyway, my Dad went out while Mum and me were going to get school stuff, and when we come home Dad said he nearly done a Homer Simpson by going out on he’s own and buying a new cat. I said I won’t talk to them if they did get a new cat, in the state that my ill cat is. Then he sent my two brothers out to get the kitten from the store, but thankfully it wasn’t for sale because it was constipated. Anyway, Mum told them to phone other pet stores to see what tabby kittens they had. Our oldest cat is g etting better, but I told them I don’t want another cat until this one has gone, and I won’t want another for a long time after he has gone.
I don’t know if I’m just being selfish or if I’m being moody again.
A: You are not selfish. You are sensible. Having said if you live at your parents home, I guess they have a right to do so. How about you persuade them to rescue a cat?
Q: How can I get my aging cat to the vet, when she hates the vet?
She is 14 yrs. and every year she gets worse. Screams, bites, scratches, there is blood involved (mine) she has been given kitty drugs to calm her before but that just makes her even more mad it’s like she knows what I did. I bought a $50 cat carrier that was easier to get her into to and still she attacks me. She has always been like this when it comes to the vet. Other than that she is very loving at home. I’ve thought about getting a mobile vet to come to my house but she will still do the same thing. And what it will cost me. She needs to go to the vet, I don’t know what to do. Her chart at the vet says in big red letters “Bites” Please help?
Thank u flutterby, Even my vet and the tech’s cannot handle her, last time they had to give her gas to do bloodwork. She is old and I don’t know what gas will do to her now.
Thank U momto3 the towel used to work she is so evil (but sweet) at home that she gets out of it. The carrier I bought for her opens at the top, sides,& front, that way judging by her moodiness I make a judgement call on how to get her in. She is so skinny and fragile that I don’t want to hurt her. I take the carrier out ahead of time she hides for days, I take it out the day of the appt. She hides either way its a no win for me. She seems to be a little calmer when I just take her she’s my baby. But I do get help and it still is a disaster. Thanks for listening.
A: Leave her carrier out and open all the time…. let it be her sanctuary… put a nice cat bed in it and let her sleep in it whenever she wants to…. then when you need to take her to the vet she’ll have her “safety zone” with her and that will help calm her down.
I started doing that with a carrier a year or so ago and it’s made taking cats to the vet a whole lot easier.
Try taking her out for a drive that is NOT to the vet every so often…. even if it’s just to put her in the carrier in the car and drive around the block a couple of times…. that will help ease her fear of the carrier and the car as well.
Q: How can I make sure my cat is safe?
My cat just started school and I am afraid that he has fallen in with a bad crowd and has become addicted to cat nip. He has been staying out late at night and is always hungry. Also he is very lazy and doesnt seem to be paying attention to me when I talk to him.
How can I find out if my cat has been taking cat nip? Is there an at home drug test I can buy? Also what should I do if I find out he has and is hanging out with these other bad cats? I would like to tell him hes not allowed to see these other cats anymore but what if those bad cats are all hopped up on cat nip and attack me? What should I do?
A: I think you may need to contact the producers of Intervention. They have a special counselor just for this kind of problem.
LOL

Q: My cat has chicken fleas/ stick tight fleas, please help!?
The fleas are only located on his head, around his eyes, around his mouth and such places.
And they are attached to his skin.
They are black and very visible.
Whats the best flea treatment I can buy from my local drug store/pharmacy.
A: Storebrand – These do not work and are a complete waste of money.
Sentry Natural Defense – This was terrible. It had a horribly strong clove smell, and it completely dissolved the hair on my cat’s neck where I applied it.
Adams & Zodiac – These have simply never worked very well for me, even with the complete ystem including shampoo and foggers.
Sergeant’s Gold – This is the only store bought brand of flea preventative that I’ve ever used that actually worked. However, it only worked for about a week. Sergeants does make my favorite flea shampoo, which oddly enough, only lasts for about a week.
Frontline Plus – By far the most popular, Frontline used to be the best you could get, but lately, I’ve been dissatisfied with this as well. If you don’t have a serious flea problem and treat every month, Frontline is still a good product. It’s probably one of the safest on the market. My vet said a human could drink a gallon of it and probably not have any ill effects. For best control, make sure you get Frontline Plus, not just Frontline.
Advantage – This product says it kills all fleas within 12 hours. I haven’t used it, so I can’t say whether it is effective or not. The vets in my area won’t carry it because they prefer Frontline.
Revolution – This is by far the best product on the market for flea control in my opinion, and it also controls heartworm, ticks, ear mites, roundworms and hookworms. Now that’s cost effective! It’s also a dollar or two less than Frontline and Advantage in most cases, though you may have to order it online or ask your vet to get it for you.
(Collars, powders, and all over sprays really shouldn’t be used on a cat. Collars are not safe because of all the climbing cats do, and they will lick off powders and sprays.)
Flea Treatments for Your Home
Carpet and Furniture Spray – Sergeant’s Gold has been more effective than any other carpet spray I’ve used. It dries in an hour, and one can treats a very large area. It’s also cost effective! I use this once a month during summer flea time.
Foggers – In this case, Zodiac has an effective product. Go ahead and get a 3-can box if you’ve had to resort to using a fogger. This is sure a messy and inconvenient way to go. I much prefer the carpet and furniture sprays.
