Q: Has anyone ever used online Vetinary prescription drugs for their pets?
my cat has just been diagnosed with diabetes and I am wondering if getting the insulin online rather than from the vet (when I know what it is she is prescribed), will be safe? Im worried about buying ‘dodgy’ goods online which might harm her, but am keen to see if I can save some money as the cost of the treatment is looking like £120 a month at the moment.
CF – my cats have had nothing but top quality complete foods from the vets, Hills, Iams, James Welbeloved etc. They dont do cheap…

A: Be very careful with this. The manufactures of most of the products will not guarantee the products you buy from the online pharmacies. I know for a fact that Navartis and Meriel will not guarantee those products. You should be concerned about “dodgy” goods from these companies. If you do speak with a salesperson for one of these companies ask if they will pay for any side issues that arise from using the products they sell. Then get it in writing. If you buy from these companies you void the manufactures warranty.
Ask your vet if a local pharmacy will compound the insulin. Cats can sometimes go from insulin dependent to non if you change their diet to a canned food diet. I feed my diabetic cat Friskies canned food and he has not had insulin in almost 3 years. Purina makes a diet called DM and it comes in canned and dry. I am not a fan of dry foods b/c they have a lot of carbs and that is why our cats become diabetic. Please talk with your vet about diet change as well as insulin treatment.

Q: If a vet. does not have a specific Rx in its pharmacy, they can still give my cat a prescription for it, no?
Ok my family’s new cat has fleas, I have tried a few prescription strength and OTC flea medicines for our cats but the only one that has worked and continued to work is Revolution for Cats. I have a lady friend that works as a veterinary assistant and I asked her if I could bring in my cat to complete the charade so I can buy more Revolution legitimately now since the online pet drug site I used to just get it from shipped from overseas also requires a prescription for it just like all the RL pet pharmacies would. The problem is she says her place doesn’t have Revolution, but I can’t see why they can’t just look at the cat and write a prescription for Revolution anyway and leave the rest to me. Just because a certain place writes you a pet prescription does not require you to fill it with them, or is this some stubborn veterinary practice?!
I am not planning to make my friend’s employer write me a prescription for my cat sight unseen, I just figure once I pay for an exam or whatever the hell it is gets them to write me a prescription they should be indifferent to wherever it is I happen to fill this prescription at.

In the good old days before the feds cracked down on all those online pet pharmacies selling Rx medicines without a Rx I didn’t have to jump through this hoop. Now my friend is making it even more difficult by saying her place doesn’t even stock Revolution.
Advantage is a joke! I tried that before, paid nearly $150 for it OTC from a vet, just to have it kill the fleas off for 2 months only to have nothing but the super-fleas impervious to everything out there besides Revolution left bothering my cats.
Frontline is crap too! That stuff was weaker than Advantage was, I didn’t even think that was possible.
I think what the real problem is is that the vet where my friend works at is just greedy and wants me to buy whatever kind of chump flea medicine they do have in their pharmacy. I know what I am talking about here, I have used Revolution (purchased online from overseas in the good ol days) and all my cats used it just fine. I have tried all the other flea medicines under the sun on my cats and none of them work worth a crap except for Revolution.
Pretty Kitty: That is what I meant! So what if my friend’s place does not stock it. I don’t care, so long as they write me a Rx for it I can fill it wherever I want or feel like filling it.
Advantage stopped working after two months, I gave it to the cats as indicated on the box, but after the two month mark only the incorrigible super-fleas remained. We combed the cats and vacuumed the place throughout but still the super-fleas stuck around for more.
So in summary, either the place where my friend works is trying to be as self-serving as possible in that they only want to write Rx for things they stock or my friend is being a bitch? Either or both seems to be the real reason…

A: they can, you have a right to one, and if they refuse to give you one you are within your rights to report them to the local vetinary association..

however, they also the right to charge an “admin” charge for the privalage.. in britain admin charges are usually capped at £10 but it depends on the industry..

Q: Has Anyone Used Cepotoxime (Vacin) For A Cat?

My male himalayan cat has had a E Coli Bladder infection for a few weeks which we are treating but it is very resistant. The culture showed Cepotoxime (Vancin), which is a 3rd generation cephalexin as sensitive to it, so we are trying it starting tomorrow. It is very expensive also. I hope it will help him. Has anyone used it from their vet or any vets out there who have used it. Do you feel it is safe and do you know side effects and dose? My vet has twice a day but most things I read say once a day 2.5 -4.5 mg per pound of body weight. Not alot online about it either in cats as it is a human drug and used as an off label for animals. Thanks for any info. He had surgery last year because of a blockage so that is why he is more prone to infections in bladder.I am worried about him. Thanks

Q: why does my cat spaz out?
I have two cats who are brother and sister and are 10 years old. Both of them have ideosyncracies, but my female cat jumps on my table when she wants to be petted or needs attention. Sometimes when I give her the attention that she wants all she does is meow and walks away sometimes I get frustrated, not in a psychotic way, but just a little irked that she went through all that drama for me to pet her and then she decides she doesn’t want it. Is she just finicky about when she wants to be touched? She jumps on the table alot and I tell her no and walk over to taker her off and she gets off, but seconds later she is on the table again. It gets old fairly quickly. She is a wonderful cat and we get along all of the time so I am a little perplexed as to why she does this. My male cat does something else; he will just be sitting there and all of a sudden his ears go back towards his neck and he just takes off making a weird gutteral meow. Other times he will do the same things with his ears and meow, but feverishly paw at the carpet. I look at him like he is on drugs or something and he usually stops. He is a wonderful cat as well and we get along just fine. I am not angry at my cats I just find this type of behaviour a little strange. I would worry about your tom cat. He might have a brain tumor. I once had a tom cat that would be fine one moment, and the next he would freak out and start “fighting” with animals that weren’t there. He died about half a year later and the vet did an autopsy to find a brain tumor. Talk to your vet, and get an x-ray, just to be on the safe side.

Q: Does Vetsulin work as good as PZI VET? I’m very concerned about changing my cat’s insulin. Please help!?
When my vet gave me Vetsulin instead of PZI VET, I was really concerned. My cat has been on PZI for years. It’s pricy, but it has saved her life. Then I did a little research online and found out PZI will be discountinued. I don’t know if Vetsulin works as good as PZI. I know it’s 2 different types of insulin. I love my cat very much. I really hope this new drug works. Can anyone tell me if it works the same as PZI before I put it in my cat? Or I should try to order the last PZI online before it disappears all together?

A: Hi, First let me congratulate you on your on-going effort to keep your kitty going. Diabetic care is a long tedious process of balancing insulin with food and activity. Sometimes goes well, sometimes not, but all-in-all shows how much you love her (him). The timing of the insulin is basically the same, both run on a 12 hr cycle. Both are 9010. You use U40 dosing with both. The benefit with the Vetsulin is the time and research behind it. Its been on the market now for 20years and is the ONLY one I know of approved by the food and drug administration. I know the change is scary but you will have to make the change sooner or later. Keep an extra close eye on the blood sugars and let them ride a tadd bit on the high side until you are sure what the change will look like in her. Remember to keep it in the fridge (the insulin, not the cat). )

Q: Help with a bad landlord and unprofessional apartment manager?
Okay. Here is my problem. The landlord at our apartment complex is basically a slumlord. There are holes in the walls, no doorknobs on doors, no covers on outlets, wires coming from the ceiling, outrageous prices, stairwell and hallway are filthy, broken and falling ceiling tiles, landlord stores drugs upstairs, apartment managers are known drug users/dealers, mold in door frames, no ventilation, no sprinklers or smoke detectors, bricks falling off the building, appliances are old, and were filthy when we moved in, apartment wasn’t cleaned before we moved in, dirty stained floors and carpets, broken drawers and cabinets, previous tenants belongings were left in apartment when we moved in, dirty litter boxes and cat feces were in the kitchen, food from previous tenants was still in the kitchen, etc. The apartment manager is harassing me online, calling me names… she is unprofessional… If someone is late on rent here, they give them 2 days to get out, and after the first day shut the electricity off, even if they are elderly, disabled, or have children. The apartment manager is only 18 years old and drinks constantly. She and her boyfriend, the “maintenance guy” have admitted to doing drugs IN THIS building, with the landlord. If she knocks on someone’s door, for ANY reason at all, and no one answers, she uses the key and goes in. Once I saw her and her boyfriend walk into someone’s apartment, and they had just gotten out of the shower and were wearing only a towel. The tenant was obviously embarrassed. The list goes on and on, but you get the idea. I am wondering if I have grounds for reporting these people, and if so, how do I do that? Also, how long do they have to give us, if they kick us out? We live in Indiana. There are no leases in this apartment complex. Tenants can pay weekly, or monthly. Also, if the landlord finds out your job pays weekly, he revokes your option to pay monthly, and forces you to pay weekly, which costs $50 more a month total. All we have with these people is a verbal contract. Are they allowed to give someone 2 days to get out? Are they allowed to shut off the electric? I would also like to add that I am disabled, and I am pretty sure there are laws protecting me from having the electricity shut off.
Let me just clarify to you that had we known all of this we would not have moved here! We didn’t know the landlord was such a person, first of all. Second of all, we moved in because we had no other choice. This is what we could afford, and it was here, or homeless. Which would YOU choose?

You moved into the ghetto, for whatever reason. This is typical ghetto housing. You could see the condition when you moved in, there was no reason to believe it would change.

Your only real option is to move out.

In the real world cities know that not everyone can afford or wants average housing. The criminals, drug addicts, etc, all need a place to live. A place like this is better then having them living on the streets. Because this kind of housing is needed in society, very cheap housing for people no one else will rent to, the city will not do anything. They will not close the place down and give all of those people no where to go.

The police will not interfere, as you have already seen. If you are unhappy there your only real option is to move to a place that meets your standards. No one is making you stay there, the landlord is not going to pitch a fit and sue you if you move out.

Q: Best cat litter that your cat likes and you can stand the smell of?
I bought the Tidy Cats Breeze System. It’s fabulous, easy to clean, doesn’t smell as terrible as other litter. I love it. My cats on the other hand…I had that one litter with my older cat and he was fine with it. I got my kitten and we were having problems with her using the litter box so we added another litter box to my apartment. The Breeze uses special pellet litter which I am sure they don’t like to dig in as much. They both only use the new one now and it’s disgusting. I have to get my boyfriend to clean because I vomit if I get anywhere near it. I would like to be able to take care of my cats. I am looking for litter that doesn’t smell as horrible and that my cats will actually like and use. My boyfriend just grabs the one at the drug store but I am willing to go the extra mile and even order online if I have to. Any ideas of litter your cat likes to use that doesn’t have a awful smell? Do I get another Breeze system and just have two? Help.

A: I use a brand called Feline Pine. It is not always as easy to find as traditional litters. The best place to look is a pet or feed store. Feline pine is made from natural pine sawdust. There are two different types. One is a pellet like kind, where the pine sawdust comes in pellets that break down gradually as the cat uses it. My cats didn’t probably like it at first, but it was all I would use and they got used to it. Recently Feline Pine has started making a “clumping” variety of litter, which basically looks just like a bunch of pine sawdust. But when kitty pees, it makes clumps that you can easily scoop out (the pellet style doesn’t do this). Because the clumping style is more fine instead of pellet style, my cats like it alot more, and it really does not smell at all!! The pine seems to naturally repel kitty box odors, as long as you clean the box daily. I’ve provided a link below if you want to check it out. It costs a bit more money than regular litter in the grocery store, but it’s totally worth it, in my opinion, and all natural, so it can be disposed of much easier than clay litter.

Q: The doctor put me on amoxicillin clavulanate for a bad cat scratch from an unknown, outdoor cat…?
I smoke cigarettes (usually 3-6 a day). I’m wondering if that increases the risk of any serious side effects for this drug? On the bottle it says that side effects are stomach ache and diarrhea, so I was thinking it’s okay, but I can’t find anything online about it, so I thought I’d ask.

A: Smoking should not affect the effectiveness of the amoxicillin, if it did, there would be drug interaction information. Your doctor no doubt knows that you smoke, and would have warned you about the possibility of worsening the side effects. I’ve answered a lot of these types of questions by simply looking at a drug’s side effects and interaction info on sites like the one listed below, and I’ve not yet seen one that warns that you shouldn’t smoke while taking them. Smoking is bad for your health, but apparently doesn’t interact badly with many drugs.

Q: Can you get a Prescription from your vet to buy medications online?
I have an elderly Jack Russell who is incontinent and needs Propalin Syrup. She also suffers from flea allergic dermatitis and just one flea bite will cause her to flare up and start ripping her hair out! As we have an outdoor cat, (although we treat them both for fleas) its impossible to stop her picking up flea bites.

The medications she needs for these conditions (Propalin Syrup, Prednicare and Synulox) are fearly expensive at the Vets and as we are on a low income we are struggling to afford them. I’ve found a website called Pet Dispensary where they sell the same drugs at a lower cost but you must provide a prescription. Would a vet be willing to do this? Plus, once you’d paid for postage etc would it be any cheaper than buying them from the Vets?

A: By law, a vet has to give you a prescription if you ask for it rather than fill the medication at the practice. Some vets may charge a fee for writing the prescription though. Many times, after the S&H, your vet may be cheaper than the online pharmacy. Also, many vets will price match an online pharmacy price.

Q: Dantron and constipation in cats?

My cat is 17 years old and very constipated. He had to have an enema last week and is now on 15ml lactulose and two peridale tablets daily. The vet wants to put him on Dantron (legal in the Uk but banned in the US as its carcinogenic) I notice online that SENNA is in the same group of drugs – anthraquinone- and wondered if anyone had any experience of using either on cats.

A: You got good advice from John. Stop feeding kitty crack and switch to a canned diet so the system can get the water it needs.

I do not know about that drug.
You can get some over the counter miralax and sprinkle some over the food
or
You can get some over the counter senekot and give 1/4 tab 2x a day for 2 days. Either one of those should solve the immediate problem

Food allergies are very common when feeding dry foods. Rashes, scabs behind the tail and on the chin are all symptoms of food allergies proabbly from the grains. Constipation? Dry food, not enough moistire. Blocakages? Again not enough moisture in the food and you are risking something serious.
The problems associated with Dry food is that they are loaded with carbohydrates which many cats (carnivores) cannot process. Also, Most of the moisture a cat needs is suppose to be in the food (Cats are not naturally big drinkers) but in
Dry, 95% of it is zapped out of dry foods in the processing. Another thing, most use horrible ingredients and don’t use a muscle meat as the primary ingredient and use vegetable based protein versus animal. Not good for an animal that has to eat meat to survive.
You want to pick a canned food w/o gravy (gravy=carbs) that uses a muscle meat as the first ingredient and doesn’t have corn at all or grains at least in the first 3 ingredients if at all. Fancy feast is a middle grade food as it uses a muscle meat as the first ingrediant. 9lives, friskies whiskas are lower grade canned but still better then dry and wellness and merrick upper grade human quality foods. The optimum food to feed cats has no grains whatsoever, cats have no use for them and many have trouble processing them as well as the carbs. IBD is another disease that is rapidly becoming common amoung cats because of the inappropriate diets being fed.

Q: Am I depressed or just a normal college student? Help!
I was researching stuff about my cat when I came across a yahoo answers question that an “unmotivated 16 year old” left, wanting to know what was wrong with him/her… and others replied saying he/she may be depressed, so I was wondering if I could possibly be depressed?

I’m a 20 year old (female) college student at UC Berkeley. I don’t have much friends socially, but do have a lot of friends that I meet up with only if I need to study or something. So I don’t go out and socialize much, but it’s more cuz I don’t have any friends and don’t wanna go to a party by myself. When I go home, I go out a lot more. My biggest concern is that I have a lot of trouble concentrating and lack motivation. A lot of the times I just want to watch tv, go online, or play with my cat/dogs. I usually don’t feel motivated to study or do HW until 10pm the night before and so I end up cramming. I want to go home all the time, and I do get home sick, but I feel like it’s something more serious than that. Sometimes after I make a mistake or get bad results on my exam, I do think in my head that I’m a bad person and need to make myself more useful. Also, even on days that I get a good amount of sleep, I still feel physically drained… most of my stress stems from money and college loans and not knowing what I’m gonna do after I graduate. Also has a lot to do with my mom and how she wants me to do well in school, but I’m not performing at the level that I should be. I feel like I can never do any better even if I did study, just because I have a lot of trouble concentrating. When I read a physics problem, I have to reread it 10 times before I can understand it cuz I can’t concentrate. Most of the time, I’m thinking about other things in my head, like if I’m out studying with friends and we read over a question, I always wonder about the most randomest things instead of concentrating on reading the question. I’m not on drugs and only drink alcohol like once a month… sometimes I do feel lonely, and I always wait til others invite me out… like I have a fear of rejection or something… so could I be mildy depressed or if I’m not, am I in danger of being depressed?
I also wanted to add that even when I’m home, I can’t concentrate on school work. Concentrating seems to be more of a problem when I’m at home. I have better luck studying when I’m in Berkeley, even if it’s minimal.

A: I think you are somewhat emotionally askewed – It might be goOd to look into an anti depressant, with all the stress you bare – its ok to have the low’s your having.. You sound a little over-analytical – like myself lol – seems your having some anxiety – I wouldn’t say your in danger!! You’ve acknowledged there’s been a change, and now you can do something about it. Stay positive, your doing everything you need to- to take that next big step in the world. Tend to your needs, take it one day at a time- there’s only so much you can do – and theres no use in beating yourself up over things- because as we all know ’shit happens’ and only we can make it better unless we deny ourselves the chance to – I’d say your a normal college student – with a slight chemical imbalance – and for not knowings ’sake’ – who does know what they wanna do? a lot of people would tell you that they know what they want to do – but that could all change for them as well – it will come! maybe just not now lol :p Focus on being wonderful and enjoying your time! just make sure to set that time aside to study – and socialize you need to make that balance for you.

I believe it all started after i smoked pot my last 2-5 times.
Ive always been healthy good kid never had any problem!!!

When i turnred 15 i ve been curesd and my whole family.
i started to smoke weed not alot at all few times a month
so my last few times i got the good stuff and got really messed up
i felt like i died i would get in this wierd trance like weeling like i left my body
At these times i was searching for drugs studiend them looking herbs online.
Also my grnadma is good and natural things that are good for u like herbs vitimins
so she brought some liver herbs to my stepfather and i smoked a little bit and felt so wierd like its not normal hight its like really depersananlized feeling and brain fog
since than after i smnoked pot and this liver shit next day.
The next day like after school i felt it again like for 3 hours and the next day and the next day
i felt out of control and i couldnt act normal like i was on drugs!!!

Than we moved and i decided to say goodbye to my friend and we smoekd black and mild its a rugular cigar
during smoking i felt sick and totally ouf it braing fog hrrible brain fog!!!!!!!!!!

its been more than3 month and i feel like iam 60

THere are few event happend in my life(moved mom pregnet summer school during summere school had to live at my mothers friend basement
so when summer skool started my symptoms were horrible
i would get Depersanalization brain fog and sometimes i would start to cry and tell my grandma i dont know where iam i felt like ive been stooneed like iam gone
in my sleep i would jerk and wake up and feel bad
my grandma says i jerk a lot when i sleep during that time
summer school almost ended me and my granda my discussed my condition oh its sinuses oh its stress and soo on actually i had trouble with my sinuses stuffy nose wierd smell from my mouth like moldy moist smell even my grandma said i have infection but my symptoms were far from a sinuses infection
also i would get horrible pressure in my head specially in the back its like my muscles would become like rocks.
any time i would think about this feeling it would come back
now sine 3 month my mental state got little better

but here is main broblem
i hink i have brain cencer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
iam so scared
i am having pressure on my right side my cheek my side of head and my cheek sometimems starts to burn
befor i would expirience horrible chest pressure and felt like i couldnt breathe
now feel like my right arm gets weeaker sometimes i would feel like iam about to drop something like it becomes so weak
sometims i would snap back into reality for like 10 minets.
also i went to sinuses doctor got cat scan they say my sinuses are perfectly clear
but i why my nose is stuffy and sometimes i would bressure in eyebrow and my mixillary sinuses spreading to right side of head
now sometimes i would feel like my heart feels weak like his feeling of weakness and i would start to shake like ima scared

also about me
iam 15 skinyy 6.2 feet tall my family is healthy always lived in healthy invoronment

and overall i feel like my rigth side of body is different its less awake
all doctors say that phisically iam healthy
but i wont come down till i get my brain scanned

iam so scared its tumor
i have all the symptoms
confusioon unreality hard to concentrate in skool i just get spaced out when teacher talks
pressure in right side weak arm

i dont know what happend to me and my family this year
weve been cursed or something my mom almost got in jail spent on layer over 50 000 $$$$ it wasnt her fault a guy was drunk and stock his head out of my moms car and hit his head on a pole and died
lawer was a good guy and saved her

i feel like i want to go to heaven and leave my body because i cant take it anymore i dont want to be me anymore because iam totally screwd

A: HANG IN THERE MAN!! You are having anxiety! You just told me you did. When you think about the drugs or what not, you feel like crap… I bet you think about it all the time don’t you?? This is simply when it started, I’ve been there bro, Anxiety can make you feel dizzy all the time. Think of it like this: You have felt like this before right? next time you feel funky remember that it will pass in a bit. Never take a lousy answer from the doctors, but you are so young. Make sure it’s not a cardio problem, then a brain problem, if it’s neither you gotta realize this man. Until the doctors can help you, QUIT THINKING ABOUT YOUR SINUSES!
