A: It’s not just a question of “printing out” a prescription, the vet needs to look at the dog’s medical history and check all the info before deciding what to prescribe and at what dose rate. The rules have recently been relaxed to allow vets to charge for written scripts, but the charges will vary between vets so you should phone them and ask, expect to pay £5-10 per prescription. If your dog hasn’t been seen recently (in the last 3 months) by the vet for this condition then there’ll probably be a check up charge too as they’ll need to see the dog for a check up.
And, no, you can’t use an old script.

Normally I go to my veterinarian where my dog is registered to get heartworm/hookworm/roundworms prevention medicine (“Sentinel Green” drug). But I have noticed its price has being going up every year. If I find another veterinarian, can I get the medicine from that other veterinarian without having my dog being a patient of the other veterinarian, or are heartworm medicine given out by prescription only?

A: Veterinary hospitals cannot act as pharmacies for non-patients. There needs to be a client-doctor-patient relationship in order for them to dispense any prescription medication.
The majority of the online pharmacies (PetMeds, Pet Pharmacy Plus, Foster & Smith, etc) will fax a form to your vet basically asking for permission to dispense the medication. The vet will either allow or decline & fax it back.

Long Question, Sorry. I’m 23. I have had a horrendous upbringing, My dad was a drug dealer, we were poor, i lived with my whole family neglecting me and telling lies. I tried to kill myself in total about 15 times and ended up in a young peoples psychiatric unit. Things started looking up when i met my now Fiance when i was 17. We moved in together and he is perfect. We have been together 7 years and we got engaged a few months ago. I still feel lost. Compared to back then things are very good for me. My partner and i have always worked very very hard and have alot compared to most i suppose. We have been to the Caribbean, (where we got engaged,) twice in the space of 8 months. We own our own home which we bought when we were 20. We have a dog and a £22,000 car. My ring cost him £3,500. We are planning our wedding abroad and having another when we get back costing £30,000 all told. We both can’t wait to start a family. My family are still poor, still on drugs or alcoholics and most resent me for what i have done with my life.

A: You need to work out your priorities. You can’t raise 4 children, build a real estate empire, and retire at 45! If you set your goals too high, get ready for disappointment! Set some realistic goals for yourself. That’s where you must start.

When he faxed it over he only approved 20 tablets and said no more refills. I believe he is doing this because I wont buy the meds from him anymore. My vet charges me $90 for one month supply. I can get a 3 month supply for $50 at 1800petmeds. Is it legal for him to refuse anymore refills unless I buy directly from him? If not I would like to report him before I find a new vet.

Your vet is charging you quite a lot for the Proin, but unfortunately your vet can charge whatever he/she likes! There are no rules there!

Reporting your vet will do nothing. It would be a waste of your time considering your vet did nothing wrong.

FYI 1-800-pet-meds is the WORST place to purchase meds, I certainly would not trust them! They are not even licensed! Not to mention they often sell counterfeit medication. Scary!

Q: I need help breaking my vicodin addiction.?
I injured my back 2+ yrs ago and have been addicted to Vicodin since. It slowly got worse and I would always say to myself, “It’s because I’m in pain” or “I have it under control and I can stop anytime,” in reality I knew I had a problem I just couldn’t admit it. So now I’m up to 7-10 7.5/750mg pills a day. I wish my doctor would have never given me these damn things all they did was ruin my life. My marriage is in shambles, I went from making $60k a year to making $35k a year, I sold my sport bike to buy more vicodin, I almost lost my house, I see three different doctors to get multiple prescriptions, I subscribe to 5 online pharmacies websites spending $1200/month on pills. I told my wife I quit taking them but I hide them in the garage, when I walk the dog, I sneak in to pop a few pills. I would like advice on the withdrawl symptoms I’m soon facing and how to kick the aweful craving. I just want to cry out because this drug has ruined my life. I’ve even asked God for help.

A: You are facing a long road because you have already gone to the dark side and getting them through online pharmacies etc. The only advice I can give you is to wean down before quitting completely. I’ve listed the symptoms below. Just keep telling yourself that it’ll be over soon. The good thing is you will come out of it with a clearer head and realize how numb you’ve been for so long. Just don’t trade addictions. It’s easy to stop taking pills and start drinking or doing something else.

in me. I want to be rich and very successful and have worked hard all my life for what i want. I have never been happy at the thought of settling for what ive got and have always strived to do more. I left school with no qualifications and since then i have done really well for myself. Im 23. I bought my own house when i was 19 through working all the hours god sends, I own a brand new £21,000 car, I have been with my boyf for 6 years, have a dog, have been on 2 Caribbean hols in the last 8 months. am in the middle of setting up my 3rd online business and soon thinking of marriage and children. But my family just pull me down all the time. My dad is on the dole with no desire to get a job, hes an alcoholic as well as a drug taker. My mum is an alcoholic and works in a supermarket, my grandads an alcoholic and hasn’t had a job for 30 years! They always tell me i am too ambitious and a dreamer. my dad told me today that i was ‘posh’ and obviously not happy. I just want more for myself that’s all. My grandma told me that i think i know everything cos i read a book! My mates don’t talk to me much anymore cos they rarely have money but i don’t care that they don’t. Whats going on.? I just want to do well in life is that really so very wrong?
It does make me more determined to do well alot of the time but its starting to really drag me down a bit now.

Just because you come from poor roots doesn’t mean you have to stay down. I was brought up with hand-me-down clothes, some weeks we couldn’t afford meat and I never looked forward to Christmas, but since then my oldest brother is a self-made millionaire and I am MD and major share holder of a company. We were lucky though, our family always supported and encouraged us. I think you could do with finding some like-minded friends so that you don’t feel quite so alone. Just don’t let their jealousy eat at your confidence.
