Q: What is the cheapest drug that kills heartworms and is safe for a Newfoundland dog.?
I have 6 Newfoundland dogs. To have all of them on name brand prevention is getting very expensive. I would like to know of something that prevents heartworms that I can buy with a reasonable price tag. Thanks for reading.

A: I’ve treated my dogs with Ivomec for over 10 years. It’s ivermectin, same as in Heartguard, but much more affordable. Many breeders, trainers, rescues, etc. use this very successfully and affordably.

I have checked the local pharmacy it’s over $300 per 100mg he probably will be on this as a maintenance drug. Any one having an idea where I can buy it cheaper out of the country??

A: the best stuff for getting out urine or any other body fluids is natures miracle. its a cleaner you can get at petco and probably walmart too. it takes the smell out better than anything and will take the stain out too. It has special enzymes that break the fluid/stain down

Q: Are laser pointers bad for dogs? Do dogs have addictive personalities?
A couple days ago a guy at the park had a laser pointer and found out that my dog goes berserk over them. I got a cheap one and played with her at the park the last two days, but I swear it’s like drugs to this dog. I’ve clicked her for doing something and she won’t eat her treat if she thinks the laser is out. These are treats she goes nuts for usually too. When the laser is gone, she gets kind of sad and sniffs around looking for it for a little while. The guy at the park was using it like a target stick in training his dog to do things, and I’ve been considering it, but I don’t want to do it if it’s dangerous/going to drive my dog insane. She doesn’t act “normal” – is it just her “new favorite thing” and harmless (I NEVER SHINE IT NEAR HER EYES) or should I put it away for good?

A: Those things should be baned for dogs. They drive them nuts and then the dogs can start to constantly look for them too. It can cause real problems with your dogs behavior. Throw it out and never expose her to that again..

Q: we must move house because of our neighbours, but problem with dog?
We seriously need to move flats because the neighbours below us are causing a lot of trouble. We have been living here for 15 years and until the new neighbours came a few months ago, we were fine. The housing cannot kick them out because they havent done anything to damage the property etc. However, we can only move to a rental property as we cannot afford anything else but we’re having a hard time finding a place that allows dogs. Anyway, on my previous question i received 2 responses, one of those who responded saying i shouldnt move if i cant find a place. we are definitely moving but it is just a matter of time until we find a place that allows dogs. My neighbour, we have simply had enough of.
We share the same block as her and because it is government housing, it is quite cheap.
Her sister lives with her and her “husband” does not. she used to have 2 dogs (one pitbull which was untrained and a jack russell) whom she lost because she let them roam around free downstairs by themselves without supervision or on a leash and just screamed their names out for them to come back. she has 3 cats (one of whom got pregnant from a wandering male. she let the cat go ahead with the pregnancy and when the kittens were born, gave the away free to random homes). the 3 cats are free to wander outside and 2 of them have attacked my dog by scratching him on the nose. they have 4 kids, probably different fathers but i cant say since i dont know. they swear at the neighbours, stay out by themselves until dark and i saw one of them holding a bottle of alcohol. she is only 7 years old. we have to share the communal laundry with them which they use to wash all sorts of their disgusting possessions including toilet rugs. they use the laundry 24/7 and take out everyone elses clothes to wash her own. she even used an extension cord, and plugged it into one of the spare plugs in the shared laundry so she could save money on electricity bill. she has no job and uses money that is given to her by the government. i have physically seen her doing drugs while i was at the local park and everytime we walk past her flat, it has a putrid smell even when the two security doors are shut. When we confronted her, she verbally abused us and told us it should be none of our business.

so after all that, do you think it is reasonable when i say we want to leave?

A: your problem is not your dog; it’s your unruly neighbors. Don’t let them run you off from a place you’ve been at for years. Get together with other tenants that feel like you do, document specific episodes of their disrespectful behavior, and then petition to have them moved out due to rule infractions and poor interactive relations with the other neighbors. If they are like you say, there should be several other tennants that can contribute and support a list and petition for eviction.

A: Try Dr. Foster and Smith’s web site. With an RX faxed or mailed from your vet’s office they can fill it. I don’t know what all they carry, but it’s worth a try. It would definitely cut the cost and it’s delivered to you. Good luck.

Q: Why have I never met a “poor” person who can not afford cigarettes, alcohol, and/or drugs?
I grew up in poverty here in the USA. My family put the “trash” in “white trash”. Trust me “trash” comes in ALL colors. Most of it lived in my hood. Yes, I have tasted fried wet dog food in my Hamburger Helper(It tastes like corned beef hash). My whole family is overweight, and has lived on disability most of their lives. I am the only exception.

I still talk to some of the other poor kids that I went to school with. Those that are still alive, for the most part, still live the same way. Most get “food stamps”, and other assistance. Almost all of them smoke, drink, and/or do drugs. Some ask me for money.

They almost all have fancy phones with internet. Maybe not I-Phones but they have the knock offs. I think it is funny to think that someone with such an expensive phone has to live with a pre-paid calling plan! Geez I make 68K a year, travel the world, etc. I get by just fine with my “cheap-o-phone”. Mine is not pre-paid. I actually pay all my bills.
I do not know anyone who gets disability that has an actual disability.

A: I hear ya…I’ve seen many instances of fancy cars sitting outside little shacks that were barely fit to live in, people using food stamps for steaks and food items I didn’t buy because they weren’t in my budget…and of course people with addictions (booze, smokes, drugs) are going to make sure those are kept satisfied.

My roommate (a great, giving person) lost his job recently. He got about a month’s severance pay but then he’ll be living off his IRA and/or unemployment compensation unless he finds a job…he’s bought no groceries for months for himself (we each buy our own) but there is NEVER a time that there’s not a bottle of whiskey in his fridge, diet coke to mix it with, and cigarettes. To me, if I was unemployed, those things (things that aren’t necessities of life) would be the first to go…along with any extras on my cellphone plan (basic service is required, people have to reach you) and cable TV/internet….

I Can buy the drug 13 pounds cheaper and double the amount online but i need to obtain a prescription for some reason. how much do vets usually charge to print out a medical prescription for dogs? thanks…
Can i use an old one from before instead?

A: It’s not just a question of “printing out” a prescription, the vet needs to look at the dog’s medical history and check all the info before deciding what to prescribe and at what dose rate. The rules have recently been relaxed to allow vets to charge for written scripts, but the charges will vary between vets so you should phone them and ask, expect to pay £5-10 per prescription. If your dog hasn’t been seen recently (in the last 3 months) by the vet for this condition then there’ll probably be a check up charge too as they’ll need to see the dog for a check up.
And, no, you can’t use an old script.

Q: Question about anxiety meds for my dog?
I brought my mailios into the vet to see about getting anxiety pills. I told the vet he howls in his crate when Im gone, pees in his crate, he when he is free at night when im in bed will chew everything from shoes, paper, plastic…, he is terrified of loud noises..like truck idling, air brakes, fireworks, hammering..etc..not thunder surpisingly. He is afradi of inadimate objects like poles, laundry hanging on the line etc…he is very nervous of people..and I think the health issues like not able to maintain a healthy weight, smelly, dry skin, the fact he is so hyper (ADHD) hyper to the point I cannot control him is from his anxieties. I have a trainer willing to work with him providing he is on anxiety meds..my vet told me he can only perscribe Clomipramine..I read up on that medication andi t says it is used to treat obessive comulsive disorders and seperation anxiety..but Amitriptyline is used to treat behavoir issues like fear of loud noise, seperation anxiety and general anxiety…but my vet won’t perscribe it. This drug is also cheaper and I cannot go to another vet because I am on a pension and can’t afford to pay $200 for a second opinion. My vet says i have a trust issue with him because when I brought my dog into have blood drawn for a heartworm test I requested I be there..he told me dogs behave better when owners are not around..don’t I have a right to be with my dog when a simple vial of blood is drawn? Also i think he is ripping me off because for the Clomipramine I got a price of $66 for 15 days supply from my vet when the pharmacy gave me a price of $49.82 (including dispensing fee) for a 30 day supply. What can I say to him because I want to try a different drug than what he recommended..is Clomipramine used for the problems I told or just for seperation anxiety? Cause I am not putting him on something that will treat on thing but not the others when there is a drug out there to treat everything..also there is nothing medically wrong to explain the problems listed above as I had his urine tested, blood tested, skin scraped..etc..

A: ok you have a big problem here. what breed is your dog? how are you with him? i am glad you have found a trainer and think long term this could be the solution for you. now can i suggest you make sure he is wormed and look at his diet. high protien foods tend to jazz a dog up. go to your supermarket and look for a complete food with very low protien. next check your dogs teeth, dental pain can make a dog very anxious and cause weight loss. next check your dogs throat feel from the outside you are looking for some swelling around the voice box. if there is some your dog may have an over active thyroid making him nuts and underweight.

get this checked out with a different vet you are certainly being ripped off and not treated well by this one.

also buy your vetenary drugs on line in the mean time give him kalms a human pill with valerian in it that shoul help him settle and save your house from distruction

Q: What is the most painless, cheapest, method to put down my dog? (Not taking it to a vet)?
Long story short i think he has a mental disorder… We live out in the country if he gets free he runs and runs and will not stop… If we leave him inside the house alone he will claw up the door jam till it comes off, he constantly chases smaller animals… I cannot afford a vet bill, not to mention we are way out in the country… That being said i do not own a gun so i cannot shoot him (i wouldn’t do that anyways as the thought of shooting him sickens me) I do love my dog to death he is a 2 yr. dogo argentino who is no good with hogs cause he won’t bay or stop when you tell him… Is there a safe at home method that i can give him a cocktail of chemicals or drugs that would put him to sleep both quickly and painlessly?

There is a new law here in Wabash that your pets must be on a leash. Even a cat. I think the police should be chasing molesters, drugs and speeders around the schools and parks. They have plenty to do but they arent doing it? The ASPCA should be going after the pets but then our town is too cheap.

A: Literally? No. But there are reasons to have pets leashed. I would rather have someone who can’t follow a simple ordinace get a citation than to have my child be hurt by a loose pet.

My wife and I are looking to rent a home. We both work. She is 39 and I am 44. The home we had was a 4 bedroom home with quiet neighbors, But we can’t keep up with the payments. Q: Loratadine for my dog?
My dog takes 10mg of loratadine a day for his allergies, but i realized that the human pills are cheaper than the vets pill, and the dosage is the same (each pill 10 mg) Is it ok if i switch to human pills? Its the same drug and dosage, should it make a difference it being a veterinary formula rahter than human prescription?

A: There shouldn’t be a difference between the 10mg Loratadine for canines and the 10 mg Loratadine for human consumption.

From what I have read, you need to be careful not to give your dog Claritin-D.

Some folks at Yahoo Answers have suggested that Benadryl is more effective. That is between you, your Vet and your dog.

Q: Why do I get played and used so much by women? I’m a really nice guy. I’m also not a nerd or punk, but…..?
Ever since High School, girls have been using me very bad with no remorse. I mean the girls I dated my Junior year and my Senior year, both broke up with me right after Christmas(which I bought them nice gifts and got cheap stuff from them) and took some other jerks to the prom. Even my sister and mom used me, and show my older brothers more respect than me. They’re jerks at time and I’m the one who was always there being nice always keeping my sister kids, when I was just 13 and up, while they run wild.

I’m very smart, tall(6′2″), down to earth, and handsome( by no means am I hot, maybe my body is). Anyway, I like to read, write, play sports, listen to music( I make music also), cook, dress very neat, I like to drink from time to time, I love kids, I’m supportive, romantic and so on. All the girls I date, always tell me that I’m a very sweet guy and that they want a to be with me forever, then turn around and break my heart. Ever since I graduated high school, girls I date do the same thing. However, now they try to keep me as a friend, while they gang bang Neanderthals. Thinking I’ll be waiting for them. LOL!

I’ve had only three serious relationships since high school. A total of six years.

The first girl I dated liked me a lot, but did not love me like she said. I really didn’t blame her she was young and I was too. She started unnecessary arguments, knowing I would break up so she could be with her ex, that she was still dating. Wow! She also tried to stay my friend in case the hot thug guy failed. I went along with it. We lasted about 8 months.

The second relationship started off so sweet, I was 24 at the time. We stayed together for almost 2 years. I would go out to eat all the time and spend lots of time with her and everything. Buy her very nice gifts. Then she started freaking out. Being over jealous and worrying about me and what I’m doing. She was cheating and I now know how cheaters are. They began to wonder what you were doing. Anyway, she worked with this guy that she would mention to me. hint hint. When I moved we were playing on being together( moving with me). She started being cruel and everything to me. We broke up within to weeks. Come to find out she got pregnant with in three weeks of me moving. Yep, the co-worker dude. She was banging him the whole time and denies it though. Wow! She too tried to be my friend and keep in touch afterwards.

My third relationship. We’ll, this one still hurts. Basically, she used me and played me also. She used and hurt me. This time I did things too. I regret loosing my character. We talked and came to the conclusion that we would show respect, trust, love, and what we wanted was to love each other and be together. Again she played me. Seen texts in her phone from some dude saying I love you baby, I miss you baby, can you talk, bla bla bla. This is from a guy who is supposed to be her male friend. I stayed with her and I moved. She again was going to come with me. Used me for money, gifts, etc…. and I used to work long hours and still come home and invite her over and cook for her and everything. I came to her to visit and all hell broke loose. She put me out on the street, after her family had dogged me out. She was trying to be my friend, but I’ve had enough. I’m looking for a woman to spend my life with, not a freaking friend. 3 years and you wanna be friends. hmmmmm!

In general I believe girls seem to either think I’m being fake and that I’m not really that sweet and play games to find out. They’re scared maybe. Leave my for thugs and gang bangers. The same girls that complained to me about that type. Used me, then try to be my friend and call me and stuff. When I make them feel better, THEY GO FUCK THE HOOD N&$(@. Guys how smoke and sell drugs and dog women out. I know, I grew up with the type.

I hate to be some wussy complaining about not getting girls, but I’m in my late 20’s now. I’m just let down and tired. Really tired. It’s started to bug me out. They ones I date use me and try to keep me on the side, just in case their relationship with there Neanderthal doesn’t work out. Why I’m I the second or last resort. Why do women get to be like 30 something with kids and all, come looking for nice guys, thinking we will raise their kids. I want my own damn kids! Why don’t they keep there lil thug friends.

A: Up to a certain point, nice guys tend to finish last, unfortunately. When you are young most girls and women want excitement in their lives, not stability. They want someone they think they can mold and shape into the perfect guy (when in reality, it doesn’t happen). You are already there. Q: Doesn’t simply driving by the police make you feel like a criminal? Or as if you did something wrong?
Maybe its just a ‘Southern’ phenomenon, but when I past the police I suddenly feel like a drug dealer, or a baby puncher or something. Of course I don’t break any laws, but when I see a police car……I kinda tense up, and then stare intently at my rear view, as if I’m just waiting for them to whip around and swoop in behind me like a cheetah. It doesn’t help that weird things happen to me. So, the day I DO get pulled over, it will be on the same day that Osama decides to hide in my trunk with a rusty machete, while I’m inside Walmart buying socks and fish food. And on the way out I’m going to purchase one of those cheap plants for my mom, (or my girlfriend depending on who I see first) but its really going to be the worlds first hybrid extra potent cannibus plant…..and when I get pulled over the drug dog is going to be so overwhelmed with the scent of cannibus he will have cardiac arrest. So not only will I be arrested for aiding a terroist, but also ‘killing’ a federal dog.

A: If the officer is male, I immediately look into the rear view mirror…I think that I do that because, at the moment, I don´t want to look at the face of the approaching officer.Last year, I experienced a very uncomfortable confrontation with two German police officers that involved racial discrimination and profiling while driving from the Swiss border to the German border. I defended myself, but inadvertently lost my cool and ended up screaming. Wasn´t very smart, but we all make mistakes sometimes. Since that time, however, I slow down, look them in the eye, and 9 times out of 10, I am allowed to pass.
A new female German border police officer stopped me recently, looked at my passport, asked me to open my trunk, looked in my trunk, looked at my passport… then complimented me on the fact that I smiled the entire time and that I look 35 in contrast to my age indicated on my passport(1957):-)
