Q: Is there a cheap version of Frontline?
Well, for us humans it seems as if there’s the expensive name-brand drug, and then there’s the cheaper generic, but does-the-same-thing drug. Is there anything like this for pets? It’s time for me to start my puppy on Frontline and Interceptor, but the cost is steep for that stuff. So is there a website I can go to and get generic versions of this stuff that’ll be just as effective?

A: I believe you get what you pay for, and I’d stick with either Frontline or Advantage. If you will look online, you can check prices on them and sometimes get very good deals. I usually order online because the prices are better than at my vet’s. Many times, the shipping is free. You really should do the best for your dog, though.

Q: I kept reading questions about importing drugs. What do you think?
about importing drugs with the recent recalls we’ve had in other products like pet food and toothpaste? Do you think imported drugs will be better? A: Actually the only reason they are cheaper in other countries now is because of price controls. With very few exceptions supply and demand is almost not even part of the equation in drug markets,because there is a huge glut of drug availability as compared to actual need. At any given time most drug manufacturers are trying to get more people on their meds to increase the demand. However many countries like Canada cap the profit margin on many drugs,so if it costs you a buck to get a Viagra produced and shipped to the distribution point you can’t charge 10 bucks for it.

As a rule I’m against most profit limiting legislation,however in some cases I have to wonder,how much is enough? And in the drug markets,as in the oil markets I have to say that the profits being gleaned at this point border on extortion. They have a product that many absolutely need,and they’re going to charge as much as they can get away with. I think many in the drug business have actually reached the point where their search for ever increasing profit borders on the obscene.

There is a new law here in Wabash that your pets must be on a leash. Even a cat. I think the police should be chasing molesters, drugs and speeders around the schools and parks. They have plenty to do but they arent doing it? The ASPCA should be going after the pets but then our town is too cheap.

A: Literally? No. But there are reasons to have pets leashed. I would rather have someone who can’t follow a simple ordinace get a citation than to have my child be hurt by a loose pet.

Q: Eukanuba or Canidae?
i m thinking to feed my pet Eukanuba because soo many ppl use it and its the only food at the pet shop cause the guy said its a great brand. so i m thinking to feed my 2 month old puppy Eukanuba since the food Canidae is sold at rlly cheap pet shops. i checked both out the 1 selling eukanuba were filled with people buying and it was on a nice place right inside the mall and canidae was in this rlly poor looking shop where people that do drugs live and i checked al 3 canidae pet shops near me all were like that exept Eukanuba. so what shoud i do i m thinking to feed him eukanuba should i why or why not?

A: “believer” got it spot-on. By reading the ingredients, Canidae blows Eukanuba out of the water, there isn’t even a comparison. Canidae is MUCH better food than Eukanuba.

On choosing a dog food:

Read the ingredients on the food you buy. Go with a high quality dog food. A grain should not be in the first couple ingredients ingredient (corn and such are mainly fillers, dogs don’t digest it well). Avoid foods that have a lot of “by products” listed.

Stay away from grocery stores brands. They are low-quality foods chalk full of fillers, preservatives, dyes, etc.. (Grocery store foods are those like Beneful, Old Roy, Alpo, Pedigree, Purina, etc.)

Beware “premium” foods. “Premium” does not mean good nutritionally, and is not a nutritionally high quality food. It has the same types of ingredients as grocery store foods, just a bit better quality of those not-so-good ingredients. (Premium foods are those like Iams, Eukanuba, Science Diet, etc..)

Another thing to be wary of: A lot of vets will recommend what they sell in their office. They get profit from the brands they keep on their shelves, that’s why they push it. Truth is, vet schools don’t focus a lot on nutrition. It’s not saying that a vet is a bad vet because he recommends those foods, a lot of vets just are told “this is good food”, so they pass the message along without proper nutrition knowledge. Also, some dog food brands (like Hills) support vet schools, so vets have heard of it from the time they start college, which makes them think it’s good as well.

Higher quality food may seem more expensive at first, but it evens out. The higher quality the food, the less fillers eaten (and therefore the less poop comes out the other end). Your dog eats more to try to get the nutrition it needs, and most of the food just passes right on through. Also, it will make your animals healthier, so you save money on vet bills in the long run.

“Big box” petstores like Petco and Petsmart rarely have quality foods. Also, grocery stores and Walmart aren’t good places to buy food either.

Your best bets for getting quality dog food are:

Q: Cheap motels near Anaheim/Orange area?
I’m going to be staying at least from April 22nd to April 26th, possibly longer, although there is a vague possibility of checking out a day or two early if I am offered a place to stay by a relative.

I DO NOT CARE if there is a layer of filth on the floor, I’m cuddling rats, and playing whack-a-mole with cockroaches. I do not care if the staff is rude. I do not care if I have to do an Olympic-worthy run through a bevy of hookers and drug dealers to get to my room. I want a bathroom (preferably with a tub), electricity, and a bed. Don’t even need a tv, though I’d imagine its pretty standard. I’ve had pretty dark times in my past, so rest assured that such an environment wouldn’t ruin my vacation at all; I’m trying to avoid sleeping in my car, because I think that would.

In the past, when I’ve gone places, I’ve done internet research on motels and hotels, and always found something cheaper advertised on a sign when I got there . . . I remember once stopping in Illinois and a front desk staff member assuring me I’d find nothing cheaper than his $55 a night. At the next interstate exit, I found one for $24. In my experience the cheapest rooms are unknown motels that don’t show up online, so I’m sort of interested in those.

It’s just me staying and I am a smoker so a smoking room is ok, but I don’t smoke inside at home so a nonsmoking room is fine as well. No pets. No need for amenities. Anything within about 15 miles is good; further is also ok if its cheap enough to make up for gas. I plan to go to Disneyland or other touristy places, but the primary function of the trip is meeting long-lost family.

I’ve found a room that is listed as $35 for weekdays and $40 for the weekends; after taxes the four-night stay comes to about $168. I know that’s not bad, but I’ve already taken too many “little luxuries” regarding this trip. I didn’t do comparative rates on my rental car at all, so I’m trying to trim the fat.

If you found a place that cheap, go with it. I don’t think that there’s anything I can find for less. I generally don’t try to find such places, since I like to give a good impression of SoCal. You could also look for hostels in the area, which might even be cheaper, as well as cleaner.

Q: Is it really that bad using human shampoo on dogs?
My vet is no help on this, since he recommends feeding my dog science diet… (ICK!). But that’s another story.

So there is a lot of show handlers on here and groomers so I’m really curious. A dog’s ph varies tremendously from the extremely alkaline GSD to the more acidic labrador.

So do human’s ph. People can have a ph level from 4.5 to 6.5
Dogs have a ph level from 6.2 to 8.62.

I’ve NEVER seen a ph scale on dog shampoo like on human shampoo. So why do we just assume that it is “ph-balanced for dogs”.? I’ve noticed most dog shampoo in pet stores have cheap sulfates, like in drug-store brand shampoo for humans, so it can’t be more gentle.

My questions:
1. Can I just use a more alkaline shampoo (SLS free) for my dog, watered down?
2. If ph level is important, why don’t dog shampoos, have a ph scale or have warnings not to use on certain breeds? I.E. “Don’t use on German Shepherd!”
Most Baby shampoos are too acidic for dogs.

A: I show my Rough Collie in the breed ring.
I always use human shampoo on her. I prefer the Kirkland (Costco) brand as it rinses easily out of her very long hair.
I wash her about once a month. Always two days before a show.

My breeder also uses human shampoo.
My best friend, who is a Vet, and raises GSDs, washes her dogs with human shampoo.

I think the dog shampoos are just trying to create a market.

The only time I have used special dog shampoo is something the vet would give me for dogs in my past that had skin issues. (I had two dogs with terrible yeast issues)

A: I feel you dude. Up to about 3 months ago I felt the same way. I’d been a Christian all my life. Never stole, never raped, never killed, and yet my life had been hell in one way or another since childhood. Why was God doing this to me? Even just the reason would have been enough.

Q: Whats a good xbox360 game for me to play?
I really enjoyed Fable 1 & 2 because you can “pick a path to go down” and trade expirience points to level up diffent aspects of your character. Also i like the ability to customize the clothing colors.
I like GTA 4 also because the seamless map. I absolutely HATE loading screens, that was one of my pet peeves with Fable, was all the loading screens in between maps.

I love games like The Sims because you can customize everything, and choose your own personality and character hairstyles and features. I can’t wait till i get sims 3 :]

But i’m looking for an xbox360 game. Something that i can control how my character looks, and i can choose a path to go down [do i want to be a swordsman, a gunman, a theif, a seductress, millionaire, thug, etc]. I really like present time games. Like i enjoyed Fallout 3, it was a little too futuristic to me, but i still liked the different skills you could choose from [intelligent, lucky, etc]. That would be cool to have a game like GTA but minus the set story line. Like you would start out robbing laundry mats, or selling drugs, and then working your way up to being a druglord, a hitman, or a gang leader. I really like games with theft and stealing in it for some reason.

I’m not a big fan of war games, or WoW type games. Wow reminds me of LOTR and i hated LOTRs it was so stupid imo. I really don’t pay attention to story lines, i’d rather make my own, the less influential a storyline is the better.
I love autoaim lol. I have a 15 inch tv so aiming has never been my specialty. I liked GTAs auto aim, but it was kinda cheap. I like Wet’s aim, where it locks on but to do extensive damage you had to manually aim with the “sub aim” or whatever that was.

But ya, can anyone suggest a game that meets those requirments? I like RPGs, but without fantasy creatures, i can do giant bugs, dead space type monsters, and maaaaybe fable status balvarines. I don’t like war games, but i love hack and slash blood everywhere stuff exploding type games.

Oh and maybe something with a multiplayer that me and my boyfriend could play on together. But he’s more into CoD and Battlefeild lol.

Q: Can you get a Prescription from your vet to buy medications online?
I have an elderly Jack Russell who is incontinent and needs Propalin Syrup. She also suffers from flea allergic dermatitis and just one flea bite will cause her to flare up and start ripping her hair out! As we have an outdoor cat, (although we treat them both for fleas) its impossible to stop her picking up flea bites.

The medications she needs for these conditions (Propalin Syrup, Prednicare and Synulox) are fearly expensive at the Vets and as we are on a low income we are struggling to afford them. I’ve found a website called Pet Dispensary where they sell the same drugs at a lower cost but you must provide a prescription. Would a vet be willing to do this? Plus, once you’d paid for postage etc would it be any cheaper than buying them from the Vets?

A: By law, a vet has to give you a prescription if you ask for it rather than fill the medication at the practice. Some vets may charge a fee for writing the prescription though. Many times, after the S&H, your vet may be cheaper than the online pharmacy. Also, many vets will price match an online pharmacy price.

Q: Under Table Jobs.. this is a serious necessity despite it’s dishonest connotations. How? Where? and When?
MY SITUATION: I receive benefits that do not completely cover the cost of rent, food, medications, and especially not hygienic necessities. I have no pets, I have no roommates, I have no car, I don’t do drugs, I don’t buy movies, I don’t have anything but a t1 line shared with 30-50 people which takes 3 minutes to load email. THE MAIN THING is that if it were documented that I am receiving any extra income, the government would reduce or obliterate what they are so generously granting me. A: Such jobs are indeed in cheaper restaurants (especially fast food and small non-chain setups), construction and agriculture. Ask for manager/owner and explain the situation.

Other cash jobs are baby-sitting, tutoring and private art lessons. All of these are more effectively advertized via word of mouth, so start by offering to do it for friends for real cheap, or in exchange for food.

It also hugely matters how you look and speak. People need to know that you are a reasonable and reliable person.

Q: A Friend Who Steals…What Should I Do?
I got a friend, who actually has a poor background. We’re both fourteen.

Right everytime she comes to my house, one or two things go missing. Everytime I tell her somethings gone she says that I lose everything or blames it on someone else.

I had a cherry phone and she asked if she can look at it, but I told her it needed charging and I turned it off, put charging cable on and put it on top of the TV. I left the room to go to toilet with her just in there and that was the last time I saw the phone. Next day, I was going to turn my phone on but it wasn’t there. I searched everywhere, I even emptied out my draws and moved the furniture out of my room, still not found. I didn’t tell my parents and I used excuses when they asked me to give it to them for a top-up. But they found out and I ended up with a cheap virgin phone, no camera, no music player, just calls and texts.
I told my parents that she does have a history of stealing from shops and other people.

A month ago, she came round to my house and she wanted to play hide and seek so I counted. Whilst she was hiding I looked through her bag (for a good cause) and my purse (with money), nintendo DS and body spray was in it. I took them out with out saying anything to her. That was the last time she came here.

A few days ago, I went to hers and I found a lot of stuff that she could’nt really afford. None of her parents work, they get very little money per month, not even enough to buy a Wii. She’s got a wii in her bedroom but has no wires for it.

I’m thinking seriously about calling police, what should I do? I want to be her friend but all the same I don’t.
Of course I don’t want to be friends with a theif but I can’t stand up to her cos she’ll beat me, and she’s a good liar which had me a few times. She smokes, drinks and takes weed. (I don’t smoke, drink or takes drugs, I’m opposite to how she lives)

Do you think I should report it or keep my promises to her?

A: I would definitely not be friends with someone like her
1. she used you
if she has no money to buy anything and your parents have a good job then she will take what she cant afford. Thats just because she probably doesn’t get anything from her parents
2. talk to your parents
tell her you found in her bag ask what they would do
3. set her up
invite her over to your house if you have a video camera put in a place thats easily hidden but can see her in your room. Put something very valuable in plain sight and see what she does that way if she does steal you can provide evidence and ask what else she took
